10 Months Old

December 2, 2013: 10 months old

Getting a 10 month old to sit still for a photo is no small task, so we had to get creative with the sticker:

MJ's new party trick: crawling:

Oh, Christmas tree

No Christmas would be complete without a trip to the Christmas tree lot.  We all bundled up this weekend to pick out Maya's first tree.  In the end, we decided on something that is more akin to a Christmas bush than a full sized tree.  Apparently, Maya wanted something that was a bit more her size...

At the local tree lot:

Hey mom, I think I like this one:

Ladies and Gentlemen, we've got a crawler on our hands.  After much anticipation, Maya (finally!) decided to start crawling.  Her preferred form of locomotion is definitely more of an army crawl than a traditional one, but it does the trick.  Even though it has only been a couple weeks, we are already missing how much easier things were when we had a stationary child...

Happy Thanksgivukkah

Maya's first holiday season was marked by an event which hasn't come around for 125 years--Thanksgivukkah.  That's right--the Gregorian and Hebrew calendars aligned to let us celebrate both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah on the same day.  Maya was so excited for this unique holiday that she decided to celebrate it twice.  We attended two Glantsgivings.  We started out the day at Grumpa and BG's house for feast #1, and then migrated to Uncle Gary and Aunt Vicki's house for feast #2.  Maya got lots of love from the extended Glant clan, and seemed to enjoy every minute of it.  As is true with any great party, we were having so much fun we forgot to take many pictures.  Here is what little photo proof we have of Maya's first (and likely only) Thanksgivukkah.

A month of firsts...

As loyal followers of the blog have made clear, we have been less than prompt in keeping everyone updated on Maya this month. So let's quickly recap this month of firsts for MJ...

Maya attended her first Friendsgiving, which included a trip to the park for her first ride on a swing:

Maya went to the Zoo for the first time. Jay was in town and Maya and her buddy Grace decided a Zoo outing was in order:

Maya learned to sit up all by herself. This made for some interrupted naps while she practiced this new skill in her crib:

Sitting up by herself was followed quickly by pulling up to standing without assistance. The nap interruptions continued:

Given her new standing capabilities, Maya quickly fell in love with using her standing toys:

Maya learned to feed herself with a spoon. Although this new skill is not mastered yet, she does get a least some of the food in her mouth:

Finally, Maya learned a new sleep position. I guess this what happens when you are practicing sitting up when you are tired and should be napping:
