Maya is officially a year and half. Her weigh-in at her 18 month appointment confirmed she is still quite a sturdy kid. She weighed at 27 lbs (93%) and 31 inches (34%).
Her personality is also starting to take shape. She is high energy, strong willed and very talkative (although we can't always tell what she is saying...). She is initially shy when she meets new people, but once she gets comfortable in her surroundings she is quite the character. That said, we've noticed she is definitely clingier than some kids and likes to stick close to mom or dad when in a group of people.
As we like to say, "the lights are definitely on" in her brain and she is starting to try her hand at getting her way through manipulation (example: giving a hug and saying "hi dada" or "hi mama" in a cute sweet voice, before asking for more milk or a certain toy). She is also testing boundaries and has been put in time out for a couple offenses. After being put in time out a couple times by mom and dad, she actually started putting herself in time out. Now, if she has done something naughty and we scold her, she will often walk over and sit on the bottom step of our stairs (the time out spot) and start whining. She'll usually stay there until we come get her. We have our fingers crossed that this type of self-discipline holds, since it certainly makes our lives easier.
In the last month, her vocabulary has exploded and we've even caught her saying a couple sentences. Some of her favorite things to say are:
Ewsh on Maya (Shoes on Maya--she requests to change shoes frequently)
Bye bye to wawa (Said as the tub drains after bath)
I luh lu (I love you)
Aupum (Airplane, which she always follows by saying "whoa" and then "bye bye")
Uppies (Up Please)
Helppies (Help Please--said why she is frustrated she can't do something she wants to on her own)
Ih-ee (Icky--said for any little thing she sees on the ground. The kid's a bit of a clean freak)
Thees (This--said for anything she wants you to give her)
Muh (Milk, her favorite drink by far)

Beep beep beep and toot toot toot (both said for trucks or buses)
She is also loving books more and more. She demands (and I mean demands) to be read to frequently and asks for her favorite books by name ("Lala" for Goodnight Gorilla, "Boom Boom" for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, "Oluuula" for Olivia, and "Beep beep beep" for Little Blue Truck). She also loves pointing out the animals in her books and telling you what sound they make, as well as pointing out and naming body parts (nose, mouth, eyes, belly and arm being her favorites). Her new favorite game is "hiding" from people, which involves backing up to a wall and standing really still. Although she is in plain site, she thinks it is hilarious when you "find" her standing out in the open.
