Le Gourmand
Maya is thoroughly enjoying her introduction to big people food. As of late, she's tried cereal, avocado, squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, applesauce, and mangos. Feeding her is almost always accompanied by her grunting and waving her arms to make sure we understand just how much she likes not having a milk-only diet. We get the sense that if she could talk, her first sentence would be "why have you been holding out on me all this time???"
This is the face Maya makes to indicate she'd like some more food. Clearly, she is a good non-verbal communicator.
Maya at La Playa
For Maya's six month birthday, we decided to head to Canada with the extended Glant clan to celebrate. We spent the weekend in Harrison Hot Springs, BC. Maya's Grumpa (Doug) has been going to this same spot since he was a little kid so it was great to introduce Maya to all that Harrison has to offer. We were quite the group--6 adults, 2 teenagers, a 2 year old, and 2 infants--which made us hard to miss as we rolled around town. Maya loved the trip and was a trooper the whole time. She even got to mark an item off her baby bucket list--her first swim! Her first dip in the water wasn't her favorite, but after a nap we tried again and she seemed to take to it more. We can't wait until next year's trip to Harrison when she's old enough to really enjoy the pool.

Goodbye, Harrison. We can't wait until next year....

Yummy!
Ladies and gentlemen: we have an eater on our hands. Maya had her first taste of solid food (oat cereal for the record) and loved it! There was no pretending the spoon was an airplane or other similar silliness to get her to open her mouth. Instead, our little girl opened wide as soon as she saw the spoon coming and banged on the high chair tray with displeasure when she realized the bowl was empty. Lest we think she is just a fan of carbs like her mom, she has had a similar reaction to the second human food she's tried--Avocado. As my dad aptly noted, Maya's love of food just proves she is a Romano :)
Ok, Mom. Let's do this:

This stuff is pretty good:
You're not bringing the food fast enough, Mom! Fine, I'll reach down and get it myself:
Don't take the spoon away!
Future Lawyers of America
Watch out, people. The lawyers are procreating. In the past year, nearly all our good friends from law school have had kids. Instead of talking contracts, we've started talking contractions. Instead of mastering Civ Pro, we're now all crib pros. Oh, what a difference a year makes...
