Maya at the park
Easter weekend our very talented friend Ryan did a little photo shoot with our favorite mini-human. As loyal followers of the blog know, we have taken tons of snapshots of Maya over the last year. But, we haven't had professional photos of her taken since she was three days old. Maya has changed so much since then, and we wanted to make sure to capture the little person she is today--playful, full of sass, and the owner of one of the most expressive faces we've seen on a 14 month old. Plus, the photo shoot was a great excuse to spend a morning at the park with a good friend sipping delicious Seattle coffee. Thank you Warner for the fabulous photos of Maya Jane!

We spent Easter at Gigi and Jack's enjoying the playroom. It was nearly impossible to get Maya to sit still long enough to take a picture of her Easter outfit. Giving her a big girl chair to sit in and a sippy cup of milk helped some....

Spring has arrived...
Spring has finally sprung. To celebrate, we took a sunny morning stroll through the Arboretum.

For the first time since Maya joined the Glettles clan, we did a weekend away without our mini-human. While we spent a couple days in Vegas (watching a shoe get chucked at Hilary Clinton's head), Maya had a staycation at Gigi and Jack's house. To be honest, we were a bit apprehensive about the trip since Maya has had an exceptionally bad case of separation anxiety lately. Of course, we underestimated that Gigi and Jack are old pros at this whole kid thing. Maya had a great time at their house and didn't even cry once (a true miracle)! Like any good grandma, Gigi fed us a steady stream of photos to keep us up to date on our little girl's first couple days away from the nest. Thank you Gigi and Jack for watching her!
Maya at 14 months
We're sure we'll think this about every age, but 14 months is really so fun. Maya has quite a personality and is constantly making us laugh. Here's a snapshot of Maya at 14 months old...
She is trying so hard to talk. She is constantly making noise (often these odd gurgling noises that sound like a cross between Yiddish and Arabic). Her vocabulary is starting to pick up, too. Currently, she's mastered Mama, Dada, Maya, Hi (which she usually yells at full volume), Bu-Bye (which is always accompanied by waving), Uh-Oh (when anything hits the ground), Moo (the sound a cow makes), and Thank you. Other tricks include dancing on command (if you say "dance," she does a little booty drop number), throwing away kleenex in the trash after she has wiped her nose, and (our personal favorite) making an emphatic "mmmm" sound every time she eats something she likes.
She also has some funny little habits. When you get her out of her crib in the morning, her first order of business is to hand you her two stuffed animals. She loves to "brush" her own hair, which consists of slapping a full-sized hairbrush on the top of her head repeatedly (her coordination isn't quite up to her intent on this one). She likes to dress up. Almost daily, she will get the same pair of sunglasses and hat (see below) out of her room and insist you put them on her. When she is done playing with them, she always puts them right back in her closet where they belong.
Picking her up at daycare is always entertaining. She insists on screaming "bu-bye" at the top of her lungs and waving like the Queen (think full arm movement) while she is being carried out of the room. If one of the teachers doesn't look at her and wave goodbye, she just yells louder and louder until she gets their attention. The teachers in the Infant and Pre-Tod room seem to find her little ritual quite amusing.

Oh, Mexico
To get a break from the Seattle gloom, we decided to head down to Mexico to visit Gigi and Jack. This was Maya's first true vacation. Admittedly, it took her a little while to warm up to the warm weather, new surroundings and lazy days. But, by the end of the trip she was enjoying her first taste of paradise. Thanks Gigi and Jack for hosting us!
Everyone else wanted to face the water view, but Maya turned herself around to see what was going on in the restaurant.
