Happy Hour

Happy hour has taken on a whole new meaning at the Glettles household.  Instead of going to the bar on Friday evenings, we now have a beer in our backyard while doing ridiculous things to make Maya's evening "happy" as well.  In Maya's world, are Dad's antics better than a craft cocktail?  You be the judge.

Look who's talking

Like her dad, Maya is constantly sticking her foot in her mouth.

Beam me up, Scotty.

One day we walked in our living room to find Maya captaining her very own baby spaceship.  To infinity and beyond!

*Shout out to Uncle Craig for this post :)

Zzzz....

About a month ago, Maya started rolling over.  She has been able to roll from her tummy to her back for quite some time, but only mastered rolling from her back to her tummy last month.  As soon as she learned this new trick, we noticed a change in her sleeping patterns.  First, she immediately started sleeping on her side.  We have always put her down to sleep on her back.  But now when we do, she promptly rolls to her side before passing out, usually while sucking on her index and middle finger (photographic evidence provided below).

Also, now that she can roll around, she sometimes likes to "play" before going to bed.  This involves flipping from her tummy to her back in her crib, all while babbling to herself.

One night, she kept rolling around and around until she just didn't have the energy anymore.  When she hit her wall, she promptly passed out face down in the mattress.  Oh, what a funny little bug she is.

Independence Day

Every year, we spend a weekend in the San Juan Islands with some of our good friends.  We couldn't let having a baby stand in the way of such a great tradition, so Fourth of July weekend we packed up Maya for her first trip to Lopez Island.  She loved it.  She took in the views, went on a hike, saw a  parade, and ate lots and lots of fresh caught crab (secondhand of course...).  She can't wait for next year's trip to the San Juans...

Stop taking my picture, Mom!  I'm trying to drive!

Farewell to Uncle Craig

Last week, we had to say goodbye to Uncle Craig.  He is off to new adventures in Australia.  Maya is going to miss her Uncle, but looks forward to plenty of trans-Pacific Facetime sessions soon (yes, she's that tech savvy...)

When Mom's Away...

Dad and Maya will play.  This is the picture Alison received while out running errands one Saturday.  Was Maya imitating Dad or Dad imitating Maya?  You be the judge...

5 Months Old

July 2, 2013: 5 Months Old

Always going for the toes:

The photo shoot was suspended temporarily when Maya decided to eat the props:

Hey mom, why don't you give me the camera:

Miss Determination

About a month ago, the lights turned on in Maya's head and she realized she was a human being.  She started grabbing at everything, constantly craning her neck to see what is going on around her, and making faces and noises in response to ours.  Through this whole process, we've realized that our nascent little being is quite the determined little thing.  When she sees something she wants, she goes for it.  She'll even attempt to catapult herself off your lap in order to reach out and grab a toy. Given her increase in mobility, we no longer spend our time holding our sweet baby.  Instead, we spend our hours wrangling her.   If the current pattern holds, the world better look out.  As soon as Maya starts walking, all bets are off...
